Obsidian Flames price guide: it's all about one Charizard
The Obsidian Flames Charizard ex special illustration rare sells for about £79 in the UK, from 17 recent sales. The rest of the set is cheap. Here's what's worth knowing.

Obsidian Flames is a one-card set for most collectors. The Charizard ex special illustration rare (223) sells for about £79 raw in the UK, from 17 recent sales. That makes it one of the most traded Charizards we track.
One of every card in the set adds up to only about £290 on the European and US markets, so the Charizard is about a quarter of the whole set on its own.
The cards worth knowing
| Card | UK price (raw) | UK sales | Europe and US, in £ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charizard ex 223 | £79 | 17 | £70 |
| Cleffa 202 | not enough UK sales yet | £26 | |
| Charizard ex 228 (gold) | not enough UK sales yet | £22 | |
| Ninetales 199 | not enough UK sales yet | £22 | |
| Charizard ex 215 | not enough UK sales yet | £16 | |
| Pidgeot ex 225 | not enough UK sales yet | £15 |
The UK pays a little more than Europe and the US for the big Charizard, about £79 against £70. That's the opposite of most newer sets, where UK buyers often pay less.
The plain Charizard ex (215) is in our Sell zone right now: it's selling above its own usual price. That describes the price today, not where it goes next.
Is the set worth finishing?
Leave out the special Charizard and the rest is cheap. Most illustration rares sit between £10 and £26. If you want one card from this set, it's the 223. If you want the full set, it's one of the easier modern sets to finish.
How we price these cards
UK prices are the middle of real eBay UK sold listings, cleaned of fakes, lots, graded copies and other languages. Where we have too few UK sales, we say so and show the Cardmarket and TCGplayer price in pounds. Data, not financial advice.
